In het begin van de twintigste eeuw is het beeld van zijn sokkel gevallen en tot

William Tucker, die beeldhouwer en theoreticus is, geeft aan hoe Rodin en de generatie

het beeldhouwen zelf het onderwerp van de sculptuur is geworden.

Professor Sir Ernst Gombrich, 1909-2001, was directeur van het Warburg Institute
in Londen. Van 1959 tot aan zijn pensionering in 1976 was hij tevens Professor of
the History of the Classical Tradition aan de University of London. Vele onderscheidingen
vielen hem ten deel en in 1972 werd hij in de ridderstand opgenomen. Van zijn hand
zijn een tiental boeken en vele essays over kunst verschenen.
